Three Holy Cross wrestlers placed in the top-eight of the Las Vegas Invitational on December 22nd.  In a field that included wrestlers from 81 teams from as far northwest as Oregon and as far east as, well, New Orleans, the Tigers placed a very respectable 17th as a team.

Holy Cross fared the best in the heavier weight classes.  Porter Dazet, wrestling in the 184 lb. Class, won six matches and lost only one, placing third overall.  At 197 lbs. Daniel Relayson went 6-2 and placed 5th.  At 222 lbs. Michael Yeatman’s record was 4-3, which was good enough to finish eighth.

Dazet started off the tournament with a pin of Sierra Vista, Nevada's James Dunn in 1:23.  His next match was a 3:42 fall over Holtville, California's Jorge De La Rosa.  After advancing via an injury default by Ricky Aguilar of Irvine, California, Dazet won his quarterfinal match with literally a "last second" pin, at 5:59, over Mohave, Arizona's Andres Orozco.  Dazet's run came to an end in the semifinals, losing to eventual runner-up Jacob Ozuna of Foothill, Nevada, in a close 6-4 match.  In the consolation semifinals Dazet got past Cedar City, Utah, wrestler Dallin Brooks 4-3.  In the consolation finals he faced Ale Ferrar of Rancho Bernardo, California.  In another close match, Dazet earned the victory 5-4.

After the XMAS holiday week the Tigers are scheduled to compete in the Deep South Bayou Duals at the River Center complex in Baton Rouge on December 28th and 29th.
