Senior Brennan Burrick (left, top) walked onto the mat with his Live Oak Eagles clinging to a 34-30 lead over East Ascension in the St. Amant Duals on Saturday.  In the final match of the day at 220 lbs., Burrick faced Destin Salsman of the Spartans.  A win would ensure a Live Oak championship while a loss by a technical fall or pin would give East Ascension the championship.  Burrick rose to the challenge by "dropping" Salsman with a pin in 1:00, preserving the victory for the Eagles. Live Oak Eagles 2013 St. Amant Duals Champions

The Live Oak Eagles posted a 4-0 record and won the St. Amant Duals on Saturday. The Eagles started the event with a 63-12 victory over Pearl River.  Scoring pins for Live Oak were Brody Bonura, Chris Mury, Colt Olinde, Jacob Chenevert, Cody Hill, Dean Roberts and Seth Bosarge.  The Eagles then shut-out Chalmette 76-0.  Brandon Chenevert, Brennan Burrick, J. Chenevert, Hill, Bosarge and Austin Hodge pinned their opponents while Jonathan Hagen scored a technical fall (16-0 @ 5:00). In the semifinals match the Eagles fell behind 18-0 via three Zachary pins before "racking up" pins of their own by Olinde, J. Chenevert, Hill, Roberts and Bosarge.  Hodge and Hagan added decisions, followed by falls by B. Chenevert and Bonura, resulting in a 49-30 win (Zachary scored their remaining 12 points due to forfeits). East Ascension proved a very worthy opponent in the finals.  After 13 matches, the Eagles were ahead 34-30 after wins by J. Chenevert, Roberts, B. Chenevert and Bonura.  Senior Brennan Burrick earned his 13th win of the season with a fall in 1:00, earning the Eagles a 40-30 victory and the tournament championship.

Junior and defending Division II state champion Hill won his 150th match of his varsity career at the event.  Hill is 39-2 this season, losing only to Brennan Taylor of Catholic, whom he has also defeated three times.  Hill went 3-0 on the day.  Other Eagle wrestlers who went undefeated were Jacob Chenevert, Dean Roberts, Brandon Chenevert, Brody Bonura and Brennan Burrick.

Live Oak's next scheduled match is a dual meet versus Zachary on Wednesday, January 9th.
