All-American status at Virginia Beach event |

Catholic's James Claitor, Brother Martin's Paul Klein
and Dunham's Mason Rabel attained All-American status at the
2014 NHSCA Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA over the weekend.
Claitor placed fifth in the 138 lbs. senior division with a
record of 7-2. Fifty-seven (57) wrestlers competed in the 138 lbs. senior division.

How tough was this weight class? Brusly's four-time
Division III state champion Trevor Schermer lost his first match 9-8 to New
York's Curtis Grant. The guy who beat Schermer (Grant) lost his next match
4-3. The guy (Trybus) who beat the guy (Grant) who beat Schermer lost his
next match 5-3. The guy (Linger) who beat the guy (Trybus) who beat the
guy (Grant) who beat Schermer lost his next match 9-6. The guy (Carrera)
who beat the guy (Linger) who beat the guy (Trybus) who beat the guy (Grant) who
beat Schermer lost his next match in 3:44. The guy (Reyes) who beat the
guy (Carrera) who beat the guy (Linger) who beat the guy (Trybus) who beat the

runner-up.

Freshman 220 lbs. bracket
Another wrestler with connections to Louisiana is South
Carolina sophomore Martin Duane, who placed 8th at 182 lbs. in the sophomore
division. Duane is the son of Cathy Girault Duane who, along with
classmate Kathy Gordon, were the stellar managers of the renowned St. Martin's
Saints wrestling teams of 1978 and 1979.
