| USAWrestling State Championships |

LA State Championships - June 15th, 2013 - Hahnville
High School
Thirty-five Freestyle and 28 Greco-Roman state
champions, in weight classes ranging from 50-55 lbs. to 285 lbs. were crowned at
the USAW State Championships held on June 15th, 2013, at Hahnville High School.
Fifteen wrestlers won championships in both styles.

Brittany Bates, wrestling
for the Bossier-Webster Parish Wrestling Club, became the first young
lady to win a state championship at the high school level. |
Sophomore Brittany Bates of Doyline High school,
wrestling for the Bossier-Webster Parish Wrestling Club, became the first high
school female to win a state championship, posting a 3-0 record in the Cadet 120
lbs. weight class. Bates could be the first young lady to place at the
LHSAA State Wrestling Championships in February of 2014, a chance she missed as
a freshman last season via a one-point loss.
Miss Bates, however, is not the first Louisiana USAW
female state champion - just the first high school one. Abigail Nette won
three freestyle and one folkstyle USAW state championships from 2009-2011while
in middle school (5th, 6th and 7th grades) wrestling for the Scorpions Wrestling
Club. In 2009, as a fifth-grader, she placed a "true third" at the Girls
Folkstyle National Championships in Oklahoma City, losing two matches by a mere
one point each. Upon returning in 2011 as a seventh-grader, she pinned her
way to a national championship at the same event. A back injury prevented
Miss Nette from participating in the Louisiana folkstyle seasons in 2011-12 and
2012-13. If the name sounds familiar, it should. Abby is the
daughter of Bonnabel's 1978 state champion and 1979 state runner-up John Nette.
This season, her sophomore year, Miss Nette plans to wrestle at Destrehan high
school under a former teammate of her father's, 1978 and 1979 Division I state
champion John Fogarty of Bonnabel.
