| Baton Rouge area teams compete to "Take Down Blindness" |

Watson, LA - Live Oak High School opened the wrestling season with their annual "Take Down Blindness" takedown tournament on Saturday. Ninety-three combatants from 11 schools participated in the takedown-only format. The first wrestler to score 10 points (five takedowns), or the wrestler with the most points after a five-minute match time, was declared the winner. Schools were allowed to enter as many wrestlers as they liked in the 13 weight classes contested (the 220 lbs. class had no entries) in a double-elimination format. Proceeds raised from the tournament were donated to the Baton Rouge Regional Eye Bank (BREB). BREB staffers were present and t-shirts were given to anyone who signed up to be an organ donor. Officials Ian Ballantyne, Walter Hackney, Andrew Mullet, Wayne Prejean and Kendrick Smith donated their time and expertise for the event. Baton Rouge High, Central, Denham Springs, Dutchtown, Episcopal, Istrouma, Live Oak, Parkview Baptist, St. Amant, Walker and Woodlawn were in attendance. |
Four returning state champions won their respective weight classes. Live Oak Division II title defenders Jacob Chenevert (113 lbs.), Cody Hill (132 lbs.) and Seth Bosarge (138 lbs.) won their weight classes, as did Division III's Marshall Hill of Parkview Baptist (160 lbs.) Brody Bonura (182 lbs.) provided a fourth title for the Eagles.
Dutchtown had three champions in Aaron Arceneaux (126 lbs.), Brandon Cowell (152 lbs.) and Gabriel Arceneaux (170 lbs.).
Central's Austin Gouedy (106 lbs.) and Devonte Hall (145 lbs.), Woodlawn's Lachlan Kritsonis (120 lbs.) and Charles Brooks (285 lbs.), and Jimmy Do of Baton Rouge High School also won titles.
