Comeaux's second-seeded senior Connor Stampley defeated top seed Andrew Munn of Houston St. Thomas 8-7 to win the 126 pounds weight class at the prestigious The Woodlands tournament in Texas.

After a first round bye Stampley teched Ben Monk of Cinco Ranch 16-0 in 3:03. In the quarterfinals he won a 16-9 decision over Klein's Cory Clark, followed by a 5-4 semifinal win over #3 Wyatt Alvis of Martin.

Stampley is 15-1 with victories at the Central Open and now The Woodlands.
Doyline sophomore Brittany Bates was not allowed to wrestle in the boys 113 pound weight class, and was forced to move up to the 119 pounds weight class (110 pounds was the next lowest weight class).  Miss Bates had prepared to compete with the boys at 113 pounds.

Despite the heavier weight class Bates placed second, falling to Clear Springs' senior Cassidy Jasperson (9-0) in 2:39.  Jasperson was a womens junior runner-up at 121 pounds in Fargo last July, a tournament in which Miss Bates placed fourth at the Cadet level at 115 pounds.  Bates is 5-3 on the season, with two of her losses coming from returning state champions at the Spartan Open: Division I's Mason Mauro of Brother Martin and Division II's Jacob Chenevert of Live Oak.
