Holy Innocents Episcopal School, Atlanta, GA-
While the Trey Culotta and Deep South Bayou Duals did not prove to be the tests
the Brother Martin Crusaders might have wanted before the Louisiana Classic, Prep Slam
VII may be just the ticket. After Friday's quarterfinals and three
rounds of consolation matches the Crusaders find themselves in a rare spot -
second - 30 points behind Wyoming Seminary Prep. School of Kingston,
Pennsylvania. Both teams have fourteen wrestlers vying for places, but
while they Crusaders have five semifinalists, the Knights have eight.
Crusaders battling Saturday for a trip to the finals are second-seeded
Steven Shields at 113 lbs. (the only Crusader facing a Knight in the
semifinals), eleventh-seeded Steven Rumney at 120 lbs.,
second-seeded Paul Klein at 132 lbs., sixth-seeded Seth
Johnson at 152 lbs. and third-seeded Yehia Riles at
182 lbs.
A familiar face awaits Seth Johnson, though, in tenth-seeded Sam Dufour
St. Paul's, who defeated the 152 lbs. seventh seed 6-4, and then scored a 6-5 win over
the guy who defeated the second seed. Johnson and Dufour have met
previously this season with Johnson taking a 6-5 victory in the pool round of
the Trey Culotta. Johnson placed fourth at that event while Dufour placed
fifth.
Still competing for the Wolves on Saturday are Cole Houser at 106 lbs., Shane
Ulfers at 120 lbs., Billy Harrison at 132 lbs., Hunter Bourgeois at 138 lbs.,
Blake Huff at 160 lbs., Kyle Schech at 195 lbs., Colin Francis at 22 lbs. and
Christian Fortner at 285 lbs.
If a couple of Wyoming Seminary names sound familiar, they should.
Apparently Patrick and Andrew Munn, formerly of Houston St. Thomas, have
transferred to Wyoming Seminary for this season. Andrew placed second to
Comeaux's Connor Stampley at the 2013 Woodlands Invitational and placed fifth at
the 2013 Trey Culotta. Patrick is in the semifinals at 138 lbs.
Andrew was the second-seeded wrestler at 152 lbs. who lost to the kid Dufour
defeated in the quarterfinals.
Klein faces third-seeded Jake Brindley of Lake Highland Prep. of Florida, who
won the South Walton Border Wars in early December, in the semifinals.

Hoover High School - Hoover, AL - The Catholic Bears are in second
place at the Scott Rohrer Hoover Invitational, 30 points behind tournament
leader Vestavia Hills, AL, in what appears to be a two team race. Vestavia
Hills placed third at the Trey Culotta and won the South Walton Border Wars.
Thirteen Bears made it to the championship brackets after qualifying after
Friday's pool rounds. Joshua Matthews, at 126 lbs., is seeded first after
going 3-0 on Friday. Cameron Carpenter (106 lbs.), Mitchell Vidrine (140
lbs.) and Matthew Mire (152 lbs.) are seeded second. Jacob Fereday (145
lbs.) and Nicholas Danna (170 lbs.) also went undefeated on Friday.
Fereday is seeded fourth and Danna fifth in their championship brackets.
Should Mire make the finals it probably will be against Hoover's Jackson Hall.
The two did not meet at the Catholic duals as Catholic and Hoover did not meet.
Hall was also at 160 lbs. during that event while Mire was at 152 lbs.
