Amite High School seeking coaching help for the upcoming season
October 8th, 2014 | Written by: Editor

Amite High School has 30 kids signed-up to wrestle, a facility in which to practice and have matches, and a new mat is just a phone call away.  Now they just need someone to teach them how.

Spurred by sophomore Chris Gadbury, a three time USA Wrestling Louisiana kids state champion and a two time USA Wrestling kids national champion, principal Terran Perry is looking for, if not a head coach who works at the school, a CEPC coach to run the "nuts and bolts" of the program.  The program is also asking for receive help on a part-time basis just to provide the new kids with wrestling "basics" from anyone with wrestling experience who has the time to help.

Amite is a class 3A school located in Amite, Louisiana, which is a little north of and halfway between Baton Rouge and Covington.  A student from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, about 20 miles south, would be a perfect fit, but the greater Baton Rouge and the Covington/Mandeville areas are only 30 miles away if someone is interested from those areas.  The is an opportunity to introduce wrestling to an area of Louisiana that has yet to embrace the sport yet is close enough to major wrestling areas to ensure easy access to competition.  (Maps)

This is a lump sum position entailing coaching through the LHSAA State Wrestling Championships on February 20th-21st.

Qualified applicants must take and pass an LHSAA Coaches Education and Certification Program or already be listed as a CECP coach on the LHSAA Website.
