Westbank quad-meet provides early season experience |

Four Greater New Orleans Westbank schools tangled
Wednesday night at the John Ehret gym in an event more
designed to provide experience than Westbank bragging
rights. Team scores were kept between Belle
Chasse, Thomas Jefferson and Belle Chasse, but getting
some early season time one the mat was the main goal of
the event.
Officially, Belle Chasse was a winner over John Ehret
and Thomas Jefferson. The Cardinals, under
first-year coach Michael Cronin, has 16 wrestlers on its
roster, five more than Ehret and seven more than Thomas
Jefferson, so hence a lot forfeits went in their favor.
That is not to say, however, that the Cardinals did not
got their share of wins as they garnered three, two by
senior Yancy Plascencia and one by senior Daniel Baradell.
First-year coach Brian Crayton of Ehret has a more
balanced team with six upperclassmen and five freshmen
and sophomores, and the Patriots won five of the six
matches matches in which they participated, including
pins in official matches by Quentin Reed-McKay, Joseph
Davis-Lucas, Jack Fontenot and David Lae. None was
more exciting that the exhibition match between Ehret's
Wilbert Sauervin and Belle Chasse's Kreg Exterstein.
The two freshmen, both participating in their first
match, battled evenly for almost the entire six minutes
until Sauervin was able to surge late for an 11-7 win.
Dean Tessitore's Thomas Jefferson squad, which includes
seasoned veterans Logan Griffin and Jeffrey Kirkland,
wrestled seven matches and won four of them.
Griffin and Logan won their matches with early falls and
were joined by Ryan Vedros and Paul Hebert who also
scored falls for the Jaguars.
Rounding out the quad-meet was Fisher sophomore Troy
Bourgeois who won an exhibition match against a Belle
Chasse opponent.
