Wrestlers as young as three and as old as, if the stubble is any indication, maybe 18, congregated at the Holy Cross gym on Saturday for the USA Wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman state championships.   There were 277 participants in the freestyle competition and 99 in the Greco-Roman.

(The editor freely admits he knows little of freestyle wrestling, and even less of Greco-Roman, so the normal scintillating commentary associated with Louisiana Wrestling News articles will be lacking in this one.  The editor did not stay for the Greco-Roman competition and barely scanned the final brackets of each event, but that explains why these photos were published in this decade.)

A few names are worth noting, if only because the editor knows them.  Division I state champion Jake Rando of Holy Cross added two more state championships to his credit, as did Live Oak's two-time Division II state champion Colt Olinde.  Division I runners-up Guy Patron, Jr. of Jesuit and Blake Mateu of Rummel won both events, as did Nicholas Lirette of Hahnville.   Airline's Juju Jones, Antonio Lococo and Keegan Gilligan won championships in the freestyle competition.  Division I runner-up Joey Foret of Holy Cross won the freestyle championship and St. Paul's had winners in Sam Dufour and Seth Dragon.
