Belle Chasse tops NOMMA and East Jefferson in well contested
tri-meet for all Cardinals dominate, but smaller NOMMA and East Jefferson teams show their mettle |

Belle Chasse fans packed their gymnasium Wednesday evening to watch their Cardinals serve notice that they should be among the better Division II programs in the state this season. Belle Chasse defeated Division II competitor East Jefferson 52-18 and Division III's New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy 42-18. The Cardinals won 9 of the 12 matches contested: 6 of 8 against the Bulldogs and 3 of 4 against the Warriors. In the match between the visiting teams, NOMMA defeated East Jefferson 42-24 but the two teams split the four matches contested..
Going undefeated for the Cardinals were senior Dylan Sweeney and junior twin brothers Josh and Zach Edwards. Other stellar performances were held by East Jefferson senior De'Avante Cooper (2-0) and NOMMA senior Christian Chestnut, who actually received a forfeit from the Warriors but wrestled a tough exhibition match against East Jefferson's Ronald Kimball, winning 9-7.
