As the high school wrestling season now underway, some of Louisiana’s younger wrestlers have started their preseason schedule as well.

This past weekend, five young Louisiana wrestlers (four Louisiana USA Wrestling 2014-2015 state champions), representing Air Force/CGA Wrestling and coached by Rich Clementi, traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, for the 8th annual Mayhem in Memphis Youth tournament.  Wrestlers from Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, and Illinois offered the young champions an opportunity to see some different faces on the mats.

Nicholas DiGerolamo, a 2014–2015 Louisiana USA Wrestling freestyle state champion and 2013-2014 AAU/USAW All American, entered in the Intermediate 87/95 lbs. division and finished in first place with a 5-0 record (all by pins).  Nicholas was voted the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler for all intermediate wrestlers.

Landon Smith, also a 2014–2015 Louisiana USA Wrestling folkstyle state champion and 2014-2015 USA Wrestling All-American, entered in the Intermediate 50/55 lbs. division and managed a runner-up finish.    He went 4-1 in the event with his only loss against an Illinois sectional winner and state placer.

Lil Rich Clementi, a 2014–2015 Louisiana USA Wrestling freestyle state champion, entered in the Intermediate 60 lbs. division and finished as a runner-up with a 2–1 record.  His only loss was against a Kentucky USA Wrestling state champion and All-American.  Jesse Lawless, the oldest of the wrestlers and a 2014–2015 Louisiana USA Wrestling youth folkstyle state champion, entered in the Schoolboy 120 lbs. division and placed fourth.
