SUMMARY

Entering a varied team of relatively new and veteran wrestlers, the Brother Martin Crusaders captured the team title at the 16th annual Jefferson Invitational last Saturday at John Ehret.

The Crusader squad included four freshmen, a two sophomores, three juniors and five seniors including veterans Kevin Casey, Cole Alphonso and Jacob Clapp.  Alphonso (195 lbs.) and Clapp (220 lbs.) won titles, as did juniors John Oliver (120 lbs.) and Michael Kospelich (126 lbs.)

Rayne won championships at 113 lbs. with Cooper Simon, and at 182 lbs. with Tyler Carriere.  Archbishop Shaw also won two titles.  Unseeded Collin Ballas won at 138 lbs. and at 152 Lbs. senior Brad Albarado avenged a 3-2 loss on Wednesday to Brother Martin's Kevin Casey with a 4-2 win.

The other weight class winners were Bryson Falcon of Belle Chasse (106 lbs.), the host school's Joseph Davis-Lucas (132 lbs.), Mandeville's Nicholas Ernst (145 lbs.), Brandon Turner of South Plaquemines (160 lbs.), Chase Menendez of Destrehan (170 lbs.) and Randy Amos of Holy Cross (285 lbs.).

The Crusaders had nine finalists and won four championships, netting them to a 217.5 points for the team championship.	A somewhat surprisingly strong Rayne team placed second with 128.5 points.

Holy Cross placed third (112.5) points followed by South Plaquemines (92 points) and Belle Chasse (87 points).  In all, twenty teams competed in the event.

NOTE: The on-site Louisiana Wrestler News photographer did not realize that once the consolation finals were completed, the remaining finals matches were held on the freed-up mat.  Hence, he missed photos of the 126 lbs., 138 lbs., 160 lbs. and 182 lbs. finals matches.  While the photographer was able to get individual champion photos for three of those weight classes, and believes the other champion is in the Brother Martin photo above, the photographer has been sacked and new ones are being interviewed.  The Louisiana Wrestling News apologizes for this oversight.
