January 1st, 2015 | Written by: Editor |
Crusader finalists, junior Daniel Varnado and freshman Daniel Croy, leave the mat after their finals match. |
SYNOPSIS
St. Paul's Brandon Stein entered the Trey Culotta with a 16-1 record which included an 11-3 major decision over Brother Martin's Daniel Croy. Stein and second-seeded Daniel Varnado of Brother Martin were undefeated in the pool rounds. One of Varnado's wins was a 4-0 win over Croy, who was competing as an unattached Crusader. Croy, however, had won six of his last seven matches before the Culotta, and his run continued when he avenged his loss to Stein in the semifinals, setting up a rematch with Varnado in the finals.
