Tuesday's Brackets Monday's Pool Results

Over 20 Louisiana teams vied for a Deep South Bayou Duals championship on Monday at the River Center in Baton Rouge.  Two remain in the hunt.

Brother Martin and St. Paul's went undefeated in their respective pools during the day and advanced to the semifinals of the championship bracket on Tuesday.  Brother Martin will face Altus, Oklahoma, while St. Paul's will battle Jefferson, Georgia, in Tuesday's semifinals.

To advance to the semifinals the Crusaders defeated Wrightstown, WI 44-16 (TrackWrestling has Brother Martin with 43 points, but the scorebook indicates Taylor Gambill, in the last match of the night, scored an 11-3 major decision yet the Crusaders were only credited with three points).  St. Paul's defeated the defending Division II state champion Teurlings Catholic Rebels 49-27.  Jesuit won their pool but faced a powerhouse team from Jefferson, GA, which defeated the Blue Jays 47-17.  In the remaining quarterfinal Altus, OK defeated Arlington, TN 71-3.

Editor's note:

The 1,001 files (image left) is not atypical of what the editor usually finds on his SD Cards after photographing 10 or so hours of wrestling.  A vast majority of those, of course, will not past muster for the final article, but each requires inspection nevertheless, which takes a lot of time.

That was not going to happen Monday evening, so only one photograph will be published in this piece.  That photo is of Brother Martin's Taylor Gambill, who turned 18 years of age on Monday, and can now legally vote.  Unfortunately, such an auspicious occasion meant much more in the editor's day.  In fact, that I was able to vote did not appear on my radar until months later.

As 654 wrestlers were listed on TrackWrestling for this event, the odds are that at least one other wrestler may also have celebrated a birthday on Monday.  Mr. Gambill stands out, however, because after his match against Wrightstown, the Crusaders serenaded him.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAYLOR GAMBILL!

Taylor Gambill, in the final match of the night, defeated Andrew Pelishek of Wrightstown 11-3, helping the Crusaders advance to the championship semifinals.
