Brandon Turner did what four previous South Plaquemines wrestlers could not in the wrestling program's 10 years - he won a state championship finals match.  In a match that required a Sudden Victory period, the top-seeded Turner defeated second seed Landon Dorsey 6-4 to notch the first ever state wrestling title for the Hurricanes.

Synopsis

South Plaquemines sophomore Brandon Turner and De la Salle senior Landon Dorsey met three times in the regular season.  Two of those matches were won by Turner, but both were due to injuries to Dorsey.  The only completed match was won by Dorsey 12-10 in the finals of the Greater New Orleans Division III Championships.  The two injury-related wins, however, were enough to merit Turner the #1 seed. 

The #3 and #4 seeds, Kyle Cascio of Brusly and Anica Logan of Grand Lake, had not met the top two seeds nor each other during the year.  In seasonal matches between the top eight seeds, Turner and Dorsey had both defeated #8 Troy Bourgeois of Fisher.  Dorsey also defeated #5 Scoggins who, along with #6 seed Kenneth Vidalier of North Vermillion, had defeated #7 John Michael Waldrop of Ouachita Christian.  Logan, however, gave the #1 seed his toughest match before the finals, falling only 5-2 to the eventual champion.  Waldrop did the same to Dorsey in the quarterfinals, falling by a 6-4 score.

The Ouachita Christian sophomore Waldrop did not care much for past results as he gave Dorsey all the Cavalier wanted in the quarterfinals, falling only 6-4.  He later avenged his previous loss to Vidalier 10-9, advanced via a forfeit against Logan, and then defeated #3 Kyle Cascio of Brusly 6-5 to place third.  Due to a forfeit by Logan, Bourgeois placed fifth after losing a brutal 18-14 consolation semifinals match to Cascio.
