Jesuit's Guy Patron, Jr. is the sole Louisiana entrant still alive in the championships bracket. Patron, Jr. advanced to the quarterfinals with a fall in 0:37, a 10-1 major decision and, an 8-1 win. (The prior listing of a 5-3 SV win by Patron was due to an officiating error which was overturned after reviewing videotape of the match,)
In the freshmen group Carencro's Taylor Clay, who placed third in Division II at 138 lbs., won his first two matches with a fall in 2:34 and a 9-0 major decision. Clay was in a 128-man bracket and lost his third match in the Round of 32. Dylan Ames and Dyllon Bernard of Comeaux, and Rayne's Morgan Manuel each won their first matches as well before falling in the Round of 32.
Of the Louisiana sophomores it was Catholic's Jacob Fereday advancing to the Round of 32 with wins of 6-1 and 7-2, before falling in the Round of 16 5-3.
Airline's Christian Walden fared best among the juniors, all of whom were in 128-man brackets. Walden won via major decisions of 10-1 and 21-10 before falling in the Round of 32. St. Amant's Brier Babin won his first match with a fall in 1:37 before losing in the Round of 64.
Of the seniors only Patron, Jr. and Rodrigo Diaz of Lafayette did not fall in their first matches. In the 32-man bracket Diaz won his first match 5-1 before having to default his second match due to a pulled hamstring.
Also participating but losing their first matches were Hunter Hawkins (Fr. 152) and Cameron Hyde of St. Amant (Jr. 152), Dylan Hezeau (So. 138) and Josh Ramirez of Rummel (So. 182), South Plaquemines' Brandon Turner (So. 152), Kobe Bernard of Dutchtown (Sr. 113), Ellis Herring of Episcopal (Sr. 182) and Teurlings Catholic's Kynan Sonnier (Sr. - 182).
Teurlings Catholic freshman Colten Sonnier may have had one of the toughest draws in the event. In the first round (Round of 64) he was paired against Sam Latona of Thompson High School in Alabama. Sam's older brother Dominic was voted the outstanding wrestler in the 2014 Deep South Bayou Duals. Sonnier fell via an 11-2 score.
