Saturday match result between Florida clubs somewhat tarnished by Sunday's ineligibility discovery

Round 3 of Pool E: #1 Eagle Empire vs. #3 Gulf Coast PINitentiary

45 35

Despite giving up two forfeits and six points to an ineligible wrestler, the Gulf Coast PINitentiary team came very close to defeating the top-seeded team in Pool E, Eagle Empire, in a match that ended up 45-35 in favor of the higher seed.  Had the ineligibility of the Eagle Empire wrestler been determined on Saturday instead of Sunday, a 12-point swing would have occurred and instead of losing by 10 points, 45-35, the Gulf Coast team would have won by two, 41-39.

This fact does not automatically mean Gulf Coast PINitentiary would have placed better than a very respectable seventh-place (particularly while forfeiting two weight classes in every match).  The GCP club would have met Floyd Central in the first round.  The Indiana team, while also a victim of points scored by the ineligible wrestler, only lost by two points, 42-40, so their adjusted score would have been 46-36 were the error adjusted.  Facing Woodward may have been a blessing for the GCP, as winning that match put them in the bracket for 5th-8th places, whereas had they lost in the first round to Floyd Central, they would have been wrestling for 9th overall.  Had they defeated Floyd Central, they would have had a task next in the Crusader A club.  Initially, Eagle Empire won the quarterfinals match against the Crusaders 42-39, but that was when the ineligibility of the Eagle Empire wrestler was learned, and Brother Martin benefited by the 12-point swing for a 45-36 win.  It is debatable as to whether that correction was appreciated by the Crusaders.  According to Coach Robert Dauterive, the reward for winning the Eagle Empire vs. Crusader A match consisted of a semifinals thrashing by the Best Trained team from Texas.
