Round 4 of Pool D: #1 Major Decision vs. #2 Bayou Elite

Had it consisted of just the Holy Cross high school team, the Bayou Elite wrestling club looked like a tough one to beat.  It already had three 2016 Louisiana Division I state champions in Cole Clement, Jake Rando and Joey Foret, as well as 3rd-place finisher Michael Benton.  Add the likes of Airline's two-time defending Louisiana Division I state champion Christian Walden, and Rummel's Blake Mateu, a 2016 Division II state champion (yet the best at 106 and 113 lbs. in all divisions in 2016), and this team should have walked over most of their opponents.

Actually, they rather did by finishing fifth out of the 25 teams entered in the 2016 Jazz Town Duals.  But the Major Decision Wrestling Club of St. Louis, Missouri, was seeded first in their Saturday pool for a reason.  While winning only one match against the Louisiana state champions (a 10-7 decision over Clement), Major Decision only gave up a fall to Foret.  Rando and Walden won via one point decisions, and Mateu also only earned three team points in a 6-0 match. 

Major Decision won nine of the 15 matches, but Bayou Elite kept things close with the Mateu, Rando, Walden and Foret wins, plus a fall by Michael Lundin (as well as a forfeit at 120 lbs.) and close contests by Benton, Brady Butler and Randal Amos, who lost, but by less than major decisions.
