Holy Cross holds nothing back in Jesuit Invitational |
December 7th, 2016 | Written by: Editor |
The Holy Cross Tigers won the inaugural Jesuit Invitational (or the reinstated Cashio-Shriever Tournament), held on November 12th, scoring 201 points to host Jesuit's 141. Champions for the Tigers were Caruso Signorelli, Michael Lundin, Cole Clement, Jake Rando, Joey Foret, Spencer Rayes and Cameron Drummond. The Tigers appear to be making a statement early that they may be the team to beat come February in Bossier City. (A statement they backed up quite well by winning the South Walton Border Wars on December 3rd.)
Jesuit championships were won by Jordan Giewat, Eli Larriviere, William Rosevally and Paul Treuting. Justin Leal and Matt Williams won championships for Brother Martin, and nobody appeared to want to challenge De la Salle's Eric Hamrick, who was the sole entrant at 285 lbs.
This was a small tournament with only seven teams participating, but it competed with the well-established Mandeville Open and Central "Wildcat Open." Despite some empty mats occaisionally due to the 45-minute rule, the event was well organized and well run. As the event featured two of the best teams in Louisiana in Holy Cross and Jesuit, it is hoped that more teams will choose to test their mettle early in the season by participating in future Jesuit tournaments.

Eric Hamrick (DLS) was the only wrestler entered in this weight class. One wrestles those who are there, and hence nobody aside from Master Hamrick can say they won the 2016 Jesuit Invitational at 285 lbs. |
