LEFT: Daniel Varnado,
wrestling at 106 lbs. for Brother Martin, won the tournament's
Outstanding Wrestler Award (the weight of the trophy obviously causing Varnado to lean to the
right). Varnado pinned every one of his opponents in the Friday pool
round in under a minute. In the Championship Bracket Tournament on
Saturday, Varnado scored one first period fall (1:17), another fall in
less than 60 seconds fall (0:33), and finished the tournament with a
fall in 1:12 over Teurlings Catholic's Colton Sonnier. RIGHT: Dunking the Outstanding Wrestler Award was a bad idea in the first place, and luckily, even on Garrett Legendre's shoulders, Varnado could not do it. |
For winning the 285 lbs. weight class, Jacob Edwards of Vestavia Hills was awarded the Trey Culotta Award by Mrs. Culotta. |
