Top-seeded Anthony Ingram of Live Oak scores via a cradle against second-seeded Brett Dingler of Belle Chasse en route to a fall in 3:05.

Top seeded Anthony Ingram of Live Oak won the Brusly 8 and placed second in the Spartan Invitational (at 285 lbs.), the Louisiana Classic and in the Greater Baton Rouge Championships.  He was 24-4 and his losses came from Division I's David Hudson of Lafayette (in the Spartan Invitational at 285 lbs.), Darian Mitchell of Barbe in the Louisiana Classic finals, Zachary's Wesley Brady (whom Ingram defeated earlier twice) in the GBRs and to Jordan Campbell of East Ascension.  He had no losses to Division II or Division III opponents.  Ingram used falls in 0:34, 1:24 and 0:51 to reach the finals.

Dingler was 23-6 prior to the state championships.  He won the Trygg Memorial and the Bruin Invitational, while placing third at the Jefferson Invitational.  Dingler reached the finals with falls of 0:23, 1:38 and 3:07 to make the finals.

Ingram and Dingler met twice during the regular season.  Ingram the first meeting with a fall in 2:31 at the Louisiana Classic.  Later, in a dual meet with Live Oak, Ingram pinned Dingler in 3:30.  Their finals match followed suit as Ingram pinned Dingler in 3:05 to win his first state championship to go with his 4th-place medal from the 2016 state championships.
