Top-seeded Mason Rabel became the first Dunham Tiger to win two state championships after a fall in 3:30 over second-seeded Wyatt Matthew of St. Louis.

Dunham's Mason Rabel brought a 19-1 record into the tournament, with his only loss coming from Hahnville's Trevon Honor in the finals of the Louisiana Classic. He won every other tournament in which he entered: the Zachary Big Horse over Zachary's Wesley Brady in 2:21: the Brusly Invitational of Jesse Melan of John Curtis 8-5; the Ken Cole over Airline's Matt Salinas 4-3; and the Greater Baton Rouge Championships over Joe Clark of Catholic via a medical forfeit.  Rabel placed second in the Trey Culotta against James Edwards of Vestavia Hills, Alabama.  Aside from the wrestlers whom he defeated in those events, he also beat Rayne's Tyler Carriere (8-5), Somon Anderson of Brother Martin (7-3), Mack Brown of Brother Martin (9-6) and D.J. Monroe of Haughton (fall in 6:26).  Rabel is also a defending state champion and was a runner-up in 2015.

Second-seeded Wyatt Mallett, a senior from St. Louis, entered the tournament with a 17-5 record.  He placed third in the Eagle Open, third in the McMillan Memorial, second in the Brusly Invitational and won the St, Louis Invitational.  Two of his losses came at 220 lbs.  One was to Brusly's defending state champion Brandon Young and the last two by Brendon Brown and Somon Anderson of Brother Martin.
