5th ANNUAL Border Wars |
* Update: 10:40 a.m.: The scores indicated below were only after the first four rounds of the Pool Rounds. Expect team placement to change after Round 5 is completed.
With three of last season's four best Division I Louisiana teams participating in the Fifth Annual South Walton Border Wars on Friday, it is not surprising to see a Louisiana team leading after Friday's Pool Rounds. What is surprising is that it is not the 2017 Louisiana Division I champion Holy Cross Tigers. Nor is it the 2017 Division I runner-up Jesuit Blue Jays. Instead, it is the 2017 fourth-place finishing St. Paul Wolves who start Saturday's championship rounds with a five point lead.
That lead, by the way, is not over Holy Cross or Jesuit. The Wolves are 11.5 points ahead of Jesuit and 21.5 points ahead of Holy Cross. Their five-point lead is over the Trojans of Soddy Daisey High School of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, just northeast of Chattanooga.
Unfortunately, at the end of Friday evening the results of the fifth round of the Pool Rounds was not available on TrackWrestling. But it may be safe to say that team championship hopes remain for the Wolves, Trojans, Blue Jays and Tigers. Cambridge High School of Georgia is 11.5 points below Holy Cross, and are 33 points behind St. Paul's.
