January 27th, 2018 | Written by: Editor

After the first day of the Ken Cole Invitational, held at Comeaux High School, East Ascension has a tenuous 0.5 lead over Teurlings Catholic (82.5-82).  Parkway is in third with 78.5 points, and Comeaux is fourth with 73 points.  The lead is tenuous, at best.  The Spartans have six wrestlers in the quarterfinals, and four of those six are facing higher seeds than they are.  The highest seeds they have (one through 4) are Trent Mahoney, #3 at 132lbs. and Jordan Campbell, #1 at 285 lbs.

Posed to take the lead after the quarterfinals are Teurlings Catholic, Parkway and Comeaux.

Teurlings Catholic has 12 quarterfinalists of which 4 of their 12 are against higher seeds.

Parkway has nine quarterfinalists.  Six of those are combatting with lesser seeds, while three at against higher seeds.  Parkway has the edge if that of the six who are higher seeds for the Panthers, they have a #4 seed, 4 #2 seeds and a #1 seed.

Comeaux seven quarterfinalists and three of those matches are against higher seeds.

The advantage after the quarterfinals should go to Parkway.

UPSETS: Only three of the top-four seeds were knocked into the consolation brackets on Friday.  At 126 lbs. Jesuit's Luke Battaglia Defeated #3 Ross Mayer of Brother Martin.  At 132 lbs. Cody Comeax defeated Ouachita Christian's Mikey Gordy 7-3, and Chandler Crawford of Baton Rouge pinned #4 Drake Griffin of North Vermillion.

Gabe Dalton, Connor Stampley's Bother (and Brother).  Trends indicate that the Louisiana Wrestling News will publish more Gabe photos than Cody Hill, Connor Stampley, Jake Rando, Trent Mahoney and Gavin Christ combined if he ends up wrestling.  Albeit with the talents his is demonstrating, a gig at Sea World comes to mine, as does the Cirque du Soleil.

It is nice seeing these three young men earning an honest day's wage
