Crusaders maul everyone to win Division I Duals Championship

The Crusaders scored 268 points in their four championship bracket matches. Their opponents scored 28 points against them. (These numbers do not reflect a 79-0 Crusader win over Dutchtown in the preliminary round.)

In the first round Brother Martin whitewashed Lafayette 81-0. They followed that with a 68-12 slaughter of Airline (with 12, Airline scored the most points against the Crusaders in the entire event).

The Crusaders' catholic foes came next. Catholic succumbed 64-9 in the semifinals and in the finals, Brother Martin walloped Holy Cross 55-7. The finals match was a far cry from the 29-24 Crusaders victory over the Tigers on December 15th.

Holy Cross reached the finals with a 75-6 pasting of Dutchtown, a 51-15 whipping of St. Amant and a 47-24 semifinals win over Jesuit.

Two differing aspects led to the Crusaders' triumph over Holy Cross in the finals. The first was revenge. Connor Hoffman, Ethan Castex and Kyle West won over the Tigers they wrestled in December. In that match, Jacob Frost defeated Hoffman 6-3, Caruso Signorelli defeated Castex 7-2 and Ryan Doody pinned Kyle West in 1:10. In this match, Hoffman beat Frost via a 10-2 major decision, Castex defeated Signorelli 9-5 and West defeated Doody 7-3. The second aspect was different line-ups by both teams. Brother Martin's Luke Cotton was ill but was more than adequately replaced by Riley Horvath at 132 lbs., so that match had no effect on the win-loss numbers. However, Spencer Rayes of Holy Cross, who competed at 182 lbs., was not cleared to compete yet, and Brady Butler was unavailable for the Tigers at 152 lbs. Those two won in December, but their replacements in this event did not. Instead, Michael Clapp and Noah Roux won weight classes they did not win in December. In the December match each team won seven matches. In this event, three Crusaders faced and beat the same Tigers they lost to in December. Add to that Crusader wins at 152 lbs. and 182 lbs., and the seven matches Holy Cross won in December was reduced to only two matches won here.

Jesuit defeated Catholic 36-27 to place third and St. Paul's defeated St. Amant 41-32 for fifth-place.
