Weight Class Synopsis

Carencro's Taylor Clay brought a very impressive 29-5 record to Bossier City, which included wins over Lance Robinson of St. Michael (via a 16-0 technical fall), George Femmer of Teurlings Catholic and Dylan Ames of Comeaux.  He lost only to Division I opponents (all placers in the state tournament) and to Ouachita Christian's Matthew Matherne.  He used a fall in 0:20, a 16-1 technical fall, and took advantage of a semifinals disqualification to advance to the finals.

Lance Robinson of St. Michael had a record of 24-11.  He had wins over Rummel's Dylan Hezeau and Nakie Brown of St. Amant, and his losses were primarily to Division I opposition, save Camdyn Ingram of Live Oak and Deonisio Talbot of Hannan.  Robinson had a tougher route to the finals, with a fall in 4:31, a 15-8 match and a 13-9 semifinals win over #3 Charles Travasos of Teurlings Catholic.

The finals match was a very active affair, but it was dominated by Clay.  Robinson had an early chance, after a Clay arm-drag and ankle-pick were countered with strong hips and a sprawl, which gave Robinson a half-nelson with which he almost scored points, but Clay rolled out of it and scored his own takedown with 1:00 remaining.   That was on the edge of the mat, and just prior to gong out-of-bounds Robinson scored an escape.  The Warrior tried a double-leg shot which Clay defended with his hips and then then sprawled over and spun around Robinson for another two-point takedown.  With a 4-1 lead Clay was to start the second period on top of Robinson.  There he rode Robinson for the entire round using a series of bar-arms and ball-and chains.  Near the end he gained a chicken-wink and a tight-waist and tilted Robinson to score two nearfall points, extending his lead to 6-1.  In the third period Clay sat-out, reached back for Robinson's head and rotated to score a reversal.  He again rode Robinson tightly, and caught him in the middle of a Granby roll, although Clay was unable to score any points.  Eventually Clay used a bar-arm and turk to get another two nearfall points via a tilt, and the match ended with a 10-1 championship for the Carencro wrestler.

This match-up may be seen again as both Clay and Robinson are juniors.

Third seed Charles Travasos of Teurlings Catholic and fourth seed Nate Williams of Haughton advance to the consolation finals with quick falls over Belle Chasse's Anthony Berlinghoff and Rummel's Alex Konnerup respectively.  Travasos kept the seeding correct with a 7-1 score to place third.  The fifth-seeded Berlinghoff defeated the seventh-seeded Konnerup 2:17 to place fifth.
