Weight Class Synopsis

Tiger freshman Jacob Frost does not get a match record in parentheses as his brother did, as he did lose a match in Florida - an 8-4 loss in the South Walton Border Wars.  But against Louisiana competitors his record was spotless.  He was undefeated and won the Brusly 8, the Dale Ketelsen Memorial, the Louisiana Classic and the Catholic League District Championships prior to the state championships.  During the season he defeated 2nd-seed Ethan Castex twice, 3rd-seed Connor Oviedo, 5th-seed Reed Bergeron and 6th-seed Jace Chenevert twice.  Fourth-seed Hunter Goodson was the only top-six seed he had not faced.  Frost reached the finals via pins in the first two rounds, a quarterfinals 16-1 Technical Fall, a semifinals fall over #4 Hunter Goodson of Catholic in 3:14.

Brother Martin's sophomore Ethan Castex won the Trey Culotta Invitational, but fell one match shy in the Mandeville Open, the Cinco Ranch Big 12 and the Catholic League District Championships.  The 113 lbs. weight class was tough, though, as stellar wrestlers existed in Division II and Division III.  In the Mandeville open finals, he lost a 1-0 decision to Shaw's Raheem Bonnet (a match Castex avenged in the Catholic League District Championships 7-2).  In the Louisiana Classic he lost to North Desoto's Joshua Sarpy in the quarterfinals and to St. Louis stand-out Alex Yokubaitis in the consolation finals.  Castex reached the finals via pins in the first two rounds, a 2:29 fall in the quarterfinals and a 10-7 semifinals decision over Connor Oviedo of St. Paul's.

The seeding committee was six-for-six re the top-six seeds.

Finals

(1) Jacob Frost of Holy Cross defeated (2) Ethan Castex of Brother Martin 5-0
In the first period one minute and fifty seconds elapsed before Frost dove for an ankle and pulled himself up on Castex from it for a takedown and the only points of the round.  He rode Castex for the rest of the first period, and, with Castex choosing bottom to start the second period, Frost rode him for another two minutes with a lot of arm bars and pressure on top of the Crusaders' shoulders and head.  On bottom to start the third round, Frost escaped in 37 seconds by forcing Castex to over-ride him.  Thirty seconds later Frost forced Castex's head and arms to the mat and spun around him for the final two points of the match.
