| St. Amant avenges loss to
East Ascension at Griffin Open at the Spartan Invitational Three girls-only weight classes in Monday's JH/JV tournament |

On November 23rd East Ascension won the Griffin Open by 35 points over St. Amant. The Gators were none too happy and returned the favor at the East Ascension Spartan Open, outscoring the host team by 45.5 points, 179.5 to 134.
The Gators conquered with only three champions in Ty Didier at 113 lbs., Corey Brownell at 145 lbs. and Abdiel Sanchez at 285 lbs. The host Spartans, however, only had Anthony Krass at 132 lbs. and Trent Mahoney at 170 lbs. win their weight classes. C.E. Byrd and Baton Rouge had three champions, Live Oak had two and Comeaux had one. For Byrd it was J.W. Fuller at 106 lbs., Demetri Teddie at 138 lbs. and Jacob Yawn at 152 lbs. Baton Rouge High School winners were Jarin Meyer at 182 lbs., Henry Nguyen at 195 lbs. and Axel Encalada-Arce at 220 lbs. Champions for the Eagles were the undefeated Clayton Hill at 126 lbs. and Rayden Ingram at 160 lbs. Reed Bergeron at 120 lbs. was the sole Comeaux champion.
C.E. Byrd's Jacob Yawn was voted the Outstanding Wrestler for his second win over defending Division II state champion Anthony Dobson.

With falls in 0:43 and 3:30 and a second win over defending Division II state champion Anthony Dodson of Live Oak (via a 16-0 technical fall) C.E. Byrd senior Jacob Yawn at 152 lbs. was chosen the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. |
Prior to the varsity tournament on Tuesday the Junior High/Junior Varsity produced the first ever all-female weight classes in Louisiana wrestling history. Junior varsity weight classes of 113 lbs. (four entrants), 145 lbs. (four entrants) and 170 lbs. (five entries) made this possible.
