| Little known to wrestling programs south of I-10 until the Louisiana Classic, Airline freshman Ernie Perry, III became a Division I state champion, with a shot, like the Holy Cross Frost twins, to win four Division I championships after his fall in 1:07 over Jacob Houser of St. Paul. |

Synopsis
Before the Louisiana Classic it looked as if the Division I 106 lbs. weight class would belong to Jacob Houser of St. Paul or Mason Elsensohn of Brother Martin. The two were 1-1 against each other until then.
Yet there was an unknown entity hailing from northwest Louisiana who seemed to win every match he entered. Airline's Ernie Perry, III, was unstoppable this season. His only loss was to an Oklahoma wrestler at the Mid-America Nationals where he placed third. He won the Warrior Open, the Riot of the Red, the Arlington Warrior Open, the Lone Survivor and the Louisiana Classic. In those events he defeated all of the Division I top-seeds aside from Byrd's J.W. Fuller (seeded sixth) and second-seeded Jacob Houser of St. Paul. Perry pinned his round-one opponent in 1:20 and his round-two one in 1:38. In the quarterfinals he scored a Technical Fall over David Bourgeois of East Ascension, 15-0 in 5:02. In the semifinals he dispatched fourth-seeded Brandon Gainy of Holy Cross 8-3.
His opponent in the finals was Jacob Houser of St. Paul. Houser won the Dale Ketelsen Memorial, the South Walton Border Wars, the Trey Culotta Invitational and the St. Tammany Parish Championships. He placed fourth at the Louisiana Classic.
