Sophomore Evan Frost of Holy Cross defeated freshman Kent Burandt of Brother Martin in 2:36 to win his second Division I state championship. |
Synopsis
Evan Frost, the defending Division I state champion sophomore from Holy Cross, was undefeated in Louisiana, and his only loss of the year was to a Tennessee opponent in the Kansas City Stampede. Frost won the Brusly 8, the Gulf Coast Classic, the South Walton Border Wars, the Jacob McMillian Memorial, the Battle of New Orleans the Louisiana Classic and the Catholic League District Championships. Frost scored falls in 1:15, 0:49, 2:47 and 1:39 to make his second Division I finals match.
Brother Martin freshman Kent Burandt only lost to defending state champions in Louisiana, Frost and Shaw's Glenn Price. Burandt won the Billy Duplessis Invitational and second at the Catholic League District Championships (losing to Frost). He placed third at the Zachary Big Horse, the Trey Culotta Invitational and the Louisiana Classic (losing in the semifinals to Price. Burandt pinned his first two opponents in 1:25 and 0:37. In the quarterfinals he won 11-2 over Live Oak's Andrew Lusby and he eked past third-seeded Ethan Ourso of Catholic in the semifinal via a 12-10 match.
