2020 State Wrestling Championships - Division I 120 pounds |
April 15th, 2020 | Written by: Editor |
As twin-brother Evan did in the previous match, Holy Cross sophomore Jacob Frost won his second Division I state championship via a fall over Carter Duet of St. Paul in 1:16. |
Synopsis
The other defending state champion from Holy Cross, and now a three-time finalist, was Jacob Frost. Frost was also undefeated in Louisiana and his, like his brother Evan, only losses came from out-of-state wrestlers at the Kansas City Slam. Frost won the Brusly 8, the Gulf Coast Classic (with an OW award), the South Walton Border Wars, the Jacob McMillian Memorial, the Battle of New Orleans the Louisiana Classic and the Catholic League District Championships. He pinned his way into the finals via falls in 0:38, 0:58, 1:26 and 4:46, the longest match of the tournament for Frost. That was to Brother Martin's Chase Scott in the semifinals.
St. Paul junior Carter Duet won the Trey Culotta Invitational and the St. Tammany Parish Championships. He placed second at the Dale Ketelsen Memorial and the South Walton Border Wars, and sixth in the Louisiana Classic. Duet scored falls in his first three matches in 1:52, 3:09, 0:28 and won a 10-1 Major Decision over third-seeded Reed Bergeron to advance to the finals.
