Synopsis

Oddly enough, Parkway senior Joshua Keeler, the top-seed at 126 lbs., only lost to a Division II wrestler and a Division III wrestler.  Division II's Joshua Sarpy of North Desoto defeated him at the Louisiana Classic, as did Division III's Alexander Yokubaitis.  Keeler placed fifth.  But that was at 120lbs., and when all three divisions are represented, 120 lbs. was the toughest weight class in Louisiana.  A week later he lost in the finals of the Ken Cole Memorial, also to Yokubaitis and also at 120 lbs.  It was probably the best for Keeler to move up to 126 lbs. for the state championships, while Sarpy and Yokubaitis would not be there, Holy Cross' Jacob Frost was at 120 lbs.  Why risk a Division I finals match against someone no Louisiana wrestler has been able to defeat in the last two years.

Keeler won the Trey Culotta Invitational, the Lone Survivor, the Bash in Florida and the Big Cat Brawl.  Keeler advanced to the finals with a round-one bye, a fall in 0:22 in round-two, a fall in 1:23 in the quarterfinals and via a fall in 1:17 in a semifinals win over fifth-seeded Michael Rader of St. Paul.

Brother Martin junior Ethan Castex, a 2019 Division I runner-up, brought a 26-1 record into the state tournament.  He won the Louisiana Classic, defeating Clayton Hill 14-8 in the finals.  He placed second in the Catholic League District Championships, losing to Shaw's Raheem Bonnet in 3:22.  Castex placed fourth at the Black Horse in Tennessee, sixth in the Gulf Coast Clash as well as the Prep Slam.

Castex pinned his round-one opponent in 0:49.  He then defeated his second-round opponent via a 16-0 Technical fall.  In the quarterfinals he won an 11-5 match over Catholic's Hunter Goodson and the pinned Hill in the semifinals.
