Synopsis

Covington senior Christopher Allen does not allow many points to be scored against him.  In his 13 matches in which he did not win by pins, his opponents averaged only 1.8 points.  And he does not often score a lot of points because it is so hard to score against him.  In the state quarterfinals and semifinals, his point total of 29 points represented 35% of his total points scored when pins were not involved, up until those matches.  Allen scored 79 points in those matches, averaging 7.2 points per match.  Since 30 of those 79 points were scored via two technical falls, he was used to averaging 4.5 points per win.

This season the Covington senior won the Mandeville Open, the Lakeshore Open, the Gulf Coast Clash (and an OW award), the Zachary Big Horse, the Battle of New Orleans (with another OW award) and the St. Tammany Parish Championships.  His only loss of the season was in the finals of the Louisiana Classic to South Beauregard's Chase Spooner.

Allen pinned his round-one opponent in 0:39 and his round-two one in 1:22.  He scored a 15-4 Major Decision in the Quarterfinals and then scored another Major Decision, this time 14-3, over Chalmette's DaiJon Bibbs to reach the finals.

St. Paul's Evan Ulfers had a good 2019-20 season.  He won the Dale Ketelsen Memorial but placed second at the South Walton Border Wars and the St. Tammany Parish Championships, and third at the Trey Culotta.  Allen defeated him twice via a 4-1 decision and a fall in 3:21.  His real nemesis, though, was Brother Martin's Cameron Frederick.  Ulfers threw Frederick to his back early in the second period of the December 13th dual meet between Brother Martin and St. Paul, but Frederick rolled through it and stunned Ulfers with a fall in 2:31.  Ulfers lost to Frederick again in the Trey Culotta semifinals, 5-1.

To make the finals Ulfers first received a bye and then pinned his round-two opponent in 0:43.  Then he got through a tough 8-7 match over sixth-seeded Andrew Evans of Catholic prior to a season tie-breaker with Frederick in the semifinals.  The match was tied 1-1 and went into a Sudden Victory period which was won by Ulfers this time.
