Synopsis

Defending Division III state champion, junior Andrew Trahan only lost four matches, to only three people 'all season.  Two were to East Ascension's Brad Mahoney, and one of those was a 14-12 win in a sudden victory period.  North Desoto's Richard Mack, III and Jake Romig of Holy Cross accounted for his losses.  In his 13 Division III matches, only St. Louis senior John Patrick Broussard came close to Trahan in a 10-7 match.  Ten of those wins were via fall.  The other two, both to Basile's Hunter Langley, were by major decisions, including his second winning state championship match.  Yet Trahan had enough Division I and Division II successes to win the Brusly 8, the Brusly Invitational, the Ken Cole Memorial and the Greater Baton Rouge championships.

Trahan received a round-one bye and then scored falls in 2:28 and 1:27 to make it to his second consecutive Division III finals match.

Basile's Hunter Langley fell to Trahan in the 2019 Division III finals.  This season Langley won the Rayne Invitational, placed second at the Brusly Invitational (to Trahan) and fourth in the Jacob McMillan Memorial.  Aside from Trahan Langley only lost to opponents from Division I, and he twice defeated Ivan Hale of Teurlings Catholic, who lost a 7-6 finals match to Richard Mack, III, in Division II.  His road to the finals included a first-round fall in 0:39, a quarterfinals fall in 0:31 and then a tough 8-5 semifinals match with third-seeded John Patrick Broussard of St. Louis.
