Synopsis

Westly only competed in 17 matches all season but he did win the Brusly Invitational over St. Louis senior John Reina.

Seeded fourth, Brusly's Joshua Westly pulled off the biggest upset in Division III when he defeated Basile's Ethan Bazinet with a fall in 5:59.  Perhaps working in Westly's favor was the fact that neither of the three wrestlers seeded higher than he ever wrestled Westly this season.

Westly was brutal his first two matches.  He won his first-round match via a 16-0 technical fall.  That was followed by a 14-4 major decision in the quarterfinals.  Against top-seeded Ethan Bazinet of Basile, Westly was ahead 19-5 prior to recoding a fall at 5:59.  Of the top-six seeds in the weight class, nobody placed as they were seeded aside from Sistrunk.

Sistrunk won the Acadiana Inferno, placed third at the Rayne Invitational and at the Ken Cole Memorial.  He placed fourth, losing to Bazinet, in the Lafayette Metro championships.  Sistrunk won his round-one match in 3:14 and his quarterfinals in 3:37.  Jason Krail of De la Salle, who upset third-seeded Carlos Flores of Thomas Jefferson, fell to Sistrunk in 3:01, which advanced Sistrunk to his second consecutive finals match.

Regardless of losing twice in the finals, Sistrunk should be proud of what he accomplished at Kaplan, being one of only four Pirates wrestlers to reach the Division III finals twice.
