Synopsis

Until middle January the only opponent most people thought capable of defeating South Beauregard senior Chase Spooner was Division I Covington's Christopher Allen.  The two met in the finals of the Louisiana Classic and it appeared that Allen made what some might not consider a mistake, but which Spooner turned into a nearside cradle for a 3:30 pin and the Louisiana Classic championship.  A week later, nobody expected Byrd's Bailee Creasee to knock Spooner from the ranks of the undefeated, but he did in an 8-7 semifinals match.  Creasee went on to win the event over Alex Newman of St. Amant, to add to the only other title he won in late December's Lone Survivor.  Creasee evidently peaked here as he did not place at the state championships.

Spooner won everything else he entered.  Prior to the Ken Cole he won the Trey Culotta, at one point or another pinning all of his opponents.  He won the Brusly Invitational via two pins and won the Jesse James Southwest Shootout.  After a round-one bye Spooner pinned his quarterfinals opponent in 1:26 and his semifinals opponent in 0:59.

St. Louis junior Kemal Robertson 22-8 upon entering the state championships.  Unfortunately, three of those losses were to Spooner.  He won the Rayne Invitational, placed second in the Brusly Invitational and the Jesse James Southwest Shootout, and placed fifth at the Ken Cole.  To get a fourth shot at Spooner Robertson pinned his three pre-finals opponents in 1:06, 0:49 and 1:27.
