EA's Batista places third at NHSCA Nationals - earns All-American status

East Ascension senior Briana Batista earned All-American status in placing third of 21 entrants at the 2022 National High School Coaches Association National in Virginia Beach, VA last Sunday.

Batista went 4-1 over the weekend, losing only to the eventual champion, Kalila Shrive of California, 7-2.  She won her first match 6-0, her second one via a fall in 2:54 and won her consolation semifinal and consolation final matches in 2:21 and 0:53.

In her senior year at East Ascension Batista posted a 4-5 record.  Two of her losses were to Division I placers at the 2022 state championships - Aiden Guy of Fontainebleau (6th at 152 lbs.) and Tyler Addison of Dutchtown (5th at 170 lbs.).  The loss to guy was a 12-8 decision while two losses to others were by scores of 2-1 and 3-1.  All four of her wins were via falls.

Batista was the fifth All-American from Louisiana, joining Jesuit's Spencer Lanosga (1st @ sophomore 285 lbs.), Shaw's Glenn Price (2nd @ senior 120 lbs.), John Curtis' Anthony Smith (5th @ freshman 195 lbs.) and Southside's  Landon Reaux (7th @ junior 106 lbs.).
