Shaw senior Glenn Price ended a stellar high school career by winning his fourth consecutive Division II state championship, something that had not been accomplished since Brock Bonin of Teurlings Catholic won his fourth in 2016.  This was Price's second consecutive undefeated season.

Seeding Synopsis

Glenn Price was unstoppable in 2022-23.  In tournament competition he won his second Louisiana Classic title and added a Ken Cole championship to his resume.  He recorded 28 falls, three technical falls, one major decision and one regular decision.  In his path he dispatched a Division III state champion, a two-time Division II state champion, two D1 runners-up, a D2 runner-up, a D3 runner-up, a D1 3rd-placer (twice) and a D1 5th-placer.  Undefeated in state championship competition, and despite that he was in a new 2022-23 season weight class, Price was the obvious top seed.

Teurlings Catholic’s Brennan Boyer, a sophomore, was seeded second.  Boyer started the season at 126 lbs. but settled on 120 lbs. after three matches.  He had 25 wins prior to the state championships, and his losses came to some high caliber competition: Airline’s Ernie Perry, III (D1 1st), Cole Mire of Dutchtown (D1 2nd), Jacob Elsensohn of Brother Martin (D1 3rd) and Christian Worley of Catholic (D1 4th).   Boyer placed sixth at the LACL, third at the Blackhorse, second at the Ken Cole and won the Jacob McMillan.

North Desoto sophomore Collin Bell was the third seed.  Bell placed fourth at the Cinco Ranch Big 12, second at the Heath Invitational and won the Little Rock Central Classic and the North Louisiana Regionals.  In the fourth spot was Rayne senior Daylon Dugas.  A third-place finisher in 2021, Dugas missed three weeks or more of the season twice yet still placed third at the Lone Survivor and was a runner-up at the Lafayette Metro championships.

Quarterfinals

Yes, the 0:05 pin by Dugas over Brandstetter stands out a tad.  The match was quick, but not THAT quick. (My fastest pin was 13 seconds, but he took me down!)  The TrackWrestling video starts with Dugas holding a cradle on Brandstetter.  That may be done in practices, but not in state championship matches.  The clock did not start for a full 10 seconds as Dugas was maneuvering Brandstatter to his back, and it  took another five seconds for the fall to be called.

(1) Glenn Price (SHW) pinned (8) Jack McGuire (BNT) in 1:18
(4) Daylon Dugas (RAY) pinned (5) Jake Brandstetter (RUM) in 0:05
(3) Collin Bell (ND) defeated (6) Austin Veilette (LKS) 7-5

Dugas advanced to the consolation finals as expected via a fall over #6 Austin Veillette of Lakeshore.  Brandstetter, however, decided he wanted another shot at Dugas and upset #3 Bell in 2:24.

Championship Consolation Rounds

The Rayne senior did not care much about what the freshman Brandstetter may have wanted during their rematch.  Dugas ended his high school career on a high note, with a second third-place finish.

  (4) Daylon Dugas (RAY) pinned (5) Jake Brandstetter (RUM) in 1:31 to place 3rd
