In the 2021 state championships Hunter Addison was seeded first.  He was upset in the semifinals 8-3 by Teurlings Catholic's Joshua Vincent, who went on to win the championship.  Addison placed third.  This season he was seeded second to Shaw's Todd Ritter, who pinned him in 4:05 to win third place at the Louisiana Classic.  Aside from Nicholas DiGeralamo, in the LACL quarterfinals,  nobody else  in Louisiana pinned Addison in the 2021-22 season.  That is probably because nobody else from Louisiana defeated Addison all year.  Nobody would after the LACL, either.

Seeding Synopsis

Shaw senior Todd Ritter, a Division II fifth-place winner in 2021, started the season with a Warrior Open championship, defeating defending Division III runner-up Spencer Hughes of De la Salle (D3 3rd) in the finals.  On the first of December, he lost a match to Fontainebleau's Raymond Favaza (D1 3rd).  That was the only loss he had in December, a month in which he won 17 straight matches,  including wins over Hannan's Preston Gautier (D3 1st) and Owen de Boisbanc (D2 3rd) of Teurlings Catholic.  He was the top-seed at the Louisiana Classic but unexpectedly fell to Airline’s Ty Parker 9-7 in the first round.  He ruled the consolation bracket, winning four of his six matches via falls, including one over de Boisbanc and one over North Desoto’s Hunter Addison, to place third.  A week later, he won the Ken Cole with another win over Gautier in the finals.  In the District 9-5A championships, he was upset by Brother Martin’s Ryan Corca (D1 4th) in the finals.  However, with a 38-3 record, and all of his losses coming from Division I opponents, he was the obvious top-seed in Division II.

Junior Hunter Addison placed third in 2021, one weight class higher than Ritter.  He started the season well via a runner-up spot at the Cinco Ranch Big 12.  He placed third at the Heath Invitational and fourth at the LACL, falling to eventual winner Nick DiGeralamo (D1 3rd) in the quarterfinals and to Ritter (D2 2nd) in the consolation finals.  He won the North Louisiana Regionals with a fall over a defending Division III state champion.  He had a record of 23 wins and only two losses to Louisiana wrestlers.  One happened to be Ritter, though, so Addison was seeded second.

De Boisbanc, with a 29-10 record was seeded third.  He placed seventh in the Big Horse, tied for third at the Jacob McMillan, fell to Ritter in the LACL just before the placing matches and placed fifth at the Ken Cole.  During the season, he defeated Hughes, Lafayette’s Ryder Foreman, Mandeville’s Miles Edwards and twice beat Basile’s Luke Fontenot (D3 4th), the last time in the Lafayette Metro finals.  Seeded fourth was Lakeshore senior Alejandro Canas.  The Titan placed second at the Warrior Open, fourth at the Lakeshore Invitational and won the Duplessis Invitational.  A loss to Edwards in the St. Tammany Parish Championships sealed his seed behind de Boisbanc’s.

Finals

It was mentioned earlier that Ritter pinned Addison at the LACL.  That was a match that lasted 4:05.  It was a close match, though, as prior to the fall Ritter only held a 6-5 lead.  In this match, Addison opened with a five-point move.  Ritter escaped after getting off of his back and scored a takedown with 13 seconds remaining to limit the first period damage to a 5-3 score in Addison’s favor.  The North Desoto wrestler did not seem to mind.  Ritter chose to start the second period on the bottom, and Addison decided not to let him up.  Instead, Hanson put the Shaw senior on his back and scored a fall after only 25 second had elapsed.  Ritter really did have a spectacular season, only marred by losses in the finals of his last two tournaments and a first period takedown he could not make-up in the Louisiana Classic.

(2) Hunter Addison (ND) pinned (1) Todd Ritter (SHW) in 2:25
