Team Louisiana at Fargo

Eighteen young men and one young woman have travelled to Fargo, North Dakota, for the United States Marine Corps and USA Wrestling Junior and 16U Nationals.  Team Louisiana is coached by Kevon Powell and Kendon Kayser.

The roster includes three Division I state champions: Tyson Roach of Sam Houston, Spencer Lanosga of Jesuit and Richie Clementi of Brother Martin.  Roach and Lanosga have some tough acts to follow from 2021 - themselves.  Lanosga placed second in the 16U Greco-Roman tournament with a 4-1 record.  He was 5-1 in the freestyle event and placed third.  Roach went 1-2 in the 16U freestyle but placed fourth in the Junior Division tournament with a 4-2 record.  Three-time Division I champion Ernie Perry, III, and Ty Parker of Airline High School were scheduled to compete, but an April 30 injury has sidelined Perry and Parker was awaiting medical clearance as of July 14th.

For those who believe (with some justification) North Dakota is actually a Canadian province or territory, were it so it would be the 12th largest of 14.  New Brunswick encompasses 71,450 square miles while North Dakota is comprised of 70,704 square miles.  Nova Scotia would comfortably place 13th at 53,338 square miles and, well, Prince Edward Island, it would lie between Hawaii and Connecticut were it a state, at 5,660 square miles.

If you are not sure if you are in Canada or the United States, just make sure you are in the right Fargo.  There are seven other U.S. cities named Fargo.  If the only store you see is just a farm with a sign saying, "Farmer Maggot's Crops - Pick Vegetables at Your Own Risk," you are probably in Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana or Oklahoma.  If you see a sign saying, "Farmer Maggot Slept Here," you are in Ohio or Wisconsin (another state often, and rightly so as it is where Generac generators are made, thought to be a Canadian territory).  There is no census data regarding the populations of Fargo, Ohio, or Fargo, Wisconsin.  If you see a few actual traffic signals, the ones with red, yellow and green lights, as opposed to just a single flashing yellow light, you are probably in Michigan.  A population of 4,000+ needs some law lest natives become restless.  Fargo, North Dakota is THE BIG ONE.  OK, not like Lafayette big, but bigger than Lake Charles.  Look for a big building that says FARGODOME.

It looks like this... ...not this

The Louisiana Wrestling News will attempt to keep readers updated as much as possible, but this season's coverage may not be "match by match" for everyone as it has been in the past.  Time spent meandering through FloWrestling brackets means less time not facing editing 48 webpages about the 2022 state championships.

If some of the wrestlers at this year's events at Fargo are not mentioned in the drivel on subsequent Fargo results pages, please know that any omissions are not due to a lack of respect by the editor, who may yet live long enough to see the Fargo championships now that almost 60 years has tempered the once loftier dreams of his youth.  You are all champions in his eyes just for participating in the event, and no matter your final results, you will be better for having done so.  Wrestle hard, be smart and be safe, and keep an eye open for wooly mammoths.

If the wrestlers feel any frost in the air, it is not outside.  Nighttime temperatures will not dip below a balmy 60 degrees and daytime highs may reach 90 degrees every couple of days.  Any Frosts known to Louisianans are the transplanted Holy Cross Frost twins from Iowa, the Evan and Jacob kinds.  For those sans knowledge of the Frost twins, they each won Louisiana Classic and Division I state titles in their freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, years in which neither were defeated by Louisiana opponents.  They transferred to Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, for their senior seasons.  In Iowa's 3A division, the state's hardest, Evan won another state championship and Jacob was a runner-up.  Currently, Evan is ranked 16th nationally and Jacob is ranked 19th by FloWrestling's David Bray.  Evan and Jacob will be competing in the 132 lbs. and 138 lbs. weight classes, respectively.

*  In 1977 my sister was a senior at St. Martin's when I was an eighth-grader.  Years later she not so fondly noted that through her high school years she was known as Mrs. Muller's daughter, whereas after she graduated she was referred to as Martin's sister.  This is Chevy's opportunity to make Pollex "Chevy's older brother."
