2022 Fargo 16U Freestyle and Women's
Freestyle Final Results Rozas Rules for Team Louisiana in 16U |
June 16th, 2022| Written by: Staff writer |
Sunday 8:00 p.m.: Session V 16U Freestyle
Rozas won his first match on Sunday 10-0 over Lander
Bosh of Utah but fell in the Consolation Round 8 #2 to Carter Pearson, a 2022
Class 3A third-place winner from Iowa. Rozas finished the event with a
Team Louisiana best 4-2 record.
Alex Rozas, who is not yet an official high school student at Teurlings Catholic, had the best day for Team Louisiana in the 16U Freestyle Nationals. Rozas won advanced to the Round of 16 via a bye and technical falls in 0:32 and 1:13 before falling to a Florida state champion 14-4 in 1:14. He came back to win his first consolation match via a 10-0 technical fall in 2:24, giving him a 3-1 record on the day.

10:00 p.m. Saturday: Incoming Teurlings Catholic freshman Alex Rozas is the sole Team Louisiana member still in the winner's bracket. In his Round of 16 match faced Florida's Lincoln Sledzianowski (say that three times really fast!). Sledzianowski, also an incoming freshman, was seeded and placed third in the Florida 2022 1A 106 lbs. state championships. Rozas lost 14-4 in 1:29 in a match that reemphasizes my distaste for freestyle wrestling. I would have had the score at 2-2 if "control" was merely a remote scoring factor. In his first consolations match Rozas defeated 2022 Missouri Class 4 5th place winner, Erik Egstad 10-0 in 2:24, which gave him the best record of the day, 3-1. One match away earlier today (No he wasn't, he was two matches away). He will need to win two matches on Sunday to earn All-American status by placing in the top-eight. His next match, in the Consolations 8-1 Round, is against Lander Bosh of Utah.
Roach fell in the Round of 32 in 3:41 to a 2022 Idaho Class 3A state champion. In the Consolations 16-1 round he was defeated 10-0 in 0:51by New York Class II state champion Darren Florance.
Chevy Coleman won her first consolation round match in 51 seconds but fell in her next one in 1:17. The young lady ended the event with a 2-2 record.
2:30 p.m. Saturday: Tyson Roach started off 2-0 and Alex Rozas is still in the winner's bracket in the 16U freestyle competition. Logan Olsen, Kaiden Triche and Rylee Reeves lost their first matches but are still alive for Saturday's Session II from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 pm. In the Women's 16U competition Chevy Coleman won her first match, lost her second one, but is still alive in the 16-2 consolation round.
A few roster changes: Jacob Britt dropped to 113 lbs. and Connor Butter dropped to 132 lbs. in 16U freestyle. Richie Clementi , Caleb Lavine did not enter the event.
Green background denote wins while red ones denote losses.
