Corrections wanted... |
September 2nd, 2022| Written by: Martin Muller |
Dear Friends,
It is September 2nd, 2022, almost seven months
since the 2022 state championships ended, and I have finished all I can think of
to do re the article on it.
I know that is a long time, and I very much appreciate the
patience you have shown waiting for it.
There were several reasons aside from my visual impairment that caused it
to take so long, but I do not want to rehash those.
What I would like to do is ask a favor if it applies.
Please let me know of any further errors you find in it.
If it is not correct I am not doing what I set out to do in 2012.
The patience I have noticed can stem from only three
reasons. One is that you stopped
looking for the article and never saw it.
Another is that you do not read the drivel I intend as text and thus do
not see the errors. That is
completely justified in my opinion and, more vociferously, my daughter’s
opinion! More likely, though, is
that you are just being polite because my typing and proofreading skills have
severely deteriorated, and you do not want to show me the errors of my ways.
I beg you, though, please show me the error of my ways!
I know my typing and reading skills suffer a lot after too much time on
the computer or too much time in varying degrees of outdoor or indoor lighting.
Some of the errors I found on the last Division III pages were so
egregious that only the kindness of the readers can justify someone not
informing me about them.
I appreciate that very much, but the wrestlers deserve
better. They are also more than
welcome to contact me when I write something in error or that just does not make
sense. A proper “Grammar Nazi” has
to allow others to redress the repeated words, the ending prepositions and the
missing antecedents.
My eyes are not going to get better but adapting to my
impairment certainly can. Part of
that already entails relying on others more that I was once accustomed.
I have also implemented some methods to do better this coming season.
I want to keep doing this as long as I can do so with a semblance of what
those in the wrestling community deem valuable.
Most parents and wrestlers know more about their seasons than I do
(oddly, not all, I have learned over the years).
When I miss something please let me know.
All I ask is that you do so politely.
Sincerely,
Martin Muller
