Tiger Invitational - 126 pounds |
November 19th, 2023 | Written by: Staff writer |
Jesse Maneckshaw |
East Ascension |
Jesse Maneckshaw, not Lucas Maneckshaw, won the 126 lbs. weight class, according to the twins' mother, Mrs. Maneckshaw. As telling a gold from a bronze medal is beyond the editor's capabilities, I took her at her word and shot a photo of Jesse. The first weight class I checked when I got home was 126 lbs. TrackWrestling said Jesse won, and Lucas placed third at 132 lbs. Mrs. Maneckshaw and Jesse were correct. Master Maneckshaw only wrestled two opponents, but he dispatched them quickly. He pinned Matthew Krail of Holy Cross in 1:46 in the semifinals and followed that with a 2:52 fall over East Ascension teammate Jamarcus Thomas. I am still not overly fond of monozygotic twins.
Round 1
I missed all of the above mentioned matches. I also missed the 25-8 technical fall pasting of Acadiana's Cayden Richard by Krail in the quarterfinals. I found that surprising, though, having watched Richard pin Sam Houston's Pollex Coleman in the first round in 4:52. A week earlier, at the Warrior Open, Coleman pinned Richard in 1:44 to set-up a finals match with Airline's Ernie Perry, III. This looked to be similar to that match at first, but one would be wrong to discount the tall, wiry, lithe and limber sophomore with the "no reason" pink headgear and shoes. While on his back he hipped-over Coleman, putting the Bronco on his back in the third period, and scoring a fall in 4:52. The loss to Krail he had to live with (and still will, as Krail defeated him 16-2 MD in the Griffin Open finals today), as he used three first-period falls to make the consolation finals, but was unable to compete due to the five-match rule. The kid's got moxie, though. He has pluck.
[OK. People have to stop spelling "Caden" and "Cayden" differently. Confused? I was until I proofed the above paragraph.]
