Everything was going Ryan Fobbs' way after a 3-1 loss in his third match to
Kaplan's Ethyn Vigneaux in the Jacob McMillan semifinals. Fobbs placed
third in that event but came back to win the Public-School Wrestling
Championships via a 1-0 win over Vigneaux, and the LACL over Catholic's David
Russell. In the PSWC semifinals Fobbs also defeated Walker's Gabriel
Millbern 6-2. The only thing one can possibly bet on re a match involving
Millbern is that, win or lose, as soon as he catches his breath he is smiling.
Fobbs, seeded first, used two falls and an 11-2 MD over Vigneaux to make the
finals. Millbern used much less energy as his first two falls were
recorded in under a minute and his semifinals fall over Lafayette's William
Perry took 2:34. Millbern caught Fobbs off balance in the finals, and such
a mistake can be devastating in the 285 lbs. weight class. It was for
Fobbs as Millbern was able to jump on top of Fobbs and score his fastest fall of
the tournament in 33 seconds.
Perry made it to the consolation finals, as he was expected to do as the #3
seed. But he fell to unseeded Ethan Peron of Southside in 3:33.
Another unseeded wrestler, Catholic junior Winston Napoli, placed fifth due to a
forfeit by Vigneaux.
