Wednesday night reader placation |
February 15th, 2023| Written by: Staff writer |
So, around noon on Wednesday I finally decided how I
would write a brief state championship recap. I decided to do so in the
time it took to play but just listen to Helter Skelter, one of the more
uplifting movies from 1976, on Amazon Prime. Three hours and nine pages in
Word later, I thought, since I already have Amazon Prime on my next-to-desk
television, I had not listened to Deadpool in months. Then it was
about 5 p.m. which meant a break for CNN's The Situation Room with Wolf
Blitzer, and then at 5:30 the ABC Evening News with David Muir to
see what CNN had gotten wrong. Then there was a little dinner with my
mother as we watched JEOPARDY! and a little before 7 p.m. I was right
back here. Looking at the Word document, seeing that I was only halfway
through brief descriptions of Division II finals matches, and knowing that even
brief descriptions of Division II and III matches would require a little more
research that Division I matches, I decided trying to finish would be lunacy.
So I decided I would try to placate readers with some photos I found.
Avengers: Endgame and a half-hour of The Avengers later, I have
what you see below this.
I really want to finish this because I have yet to read
what anyone else wrote about the tournament. I try not to do that so as
not to be tempted by the acclaimed skills of some or the grammatical laziness of
others. The latter, of course, may be excused if they are "Rod & Cone
Impaired." I admit the photos lean a little on the Division I side, but I
took the majority of those photos so I had an idea of what was available.
I cannot say the same yet for the Division II and III finals photos. As
for other photos taken on Friday, well, "three x quantum physics = coelacanth."

D1 106 lbs. Finals: 1)
Samuel Favaza of Fontainebleau shortly before he scores a fall over
Michael Barnett of Jesuit 2) To say neither wrestler was not emotional
afterwards would be folly. Barnett shows the bloodied face of a
warrior 3) Favaza realizes that now, over the beautiful Fontainebleau
crest on his singlet, there is a target for next season. |

D1 145 lbs. Finals: Kent
Burandt gets a photo for every year he has been in a Division I finals
match. Unfortunately, in those years he did not learn (or more
likely care) where the camera was while he was wrestling. (Just
fair warning before the completed state article is published!) |

D1 120 lbs.: Watts
Goodson get two photos for his second awesome state finals match, even
though he came up a point short. Landon Reaux was to get three
photos, but I inexplicitly missed one. |

Domangue gets two, representing each of his two titles. |

D2 126 lbs.: Sam Houston's
Tyson Roach before the match and near the end. And as
disappointing as the end of that match must have been for him, one
should know smiles do not stay off of Brennan Boyer's face for long. |

D2 152 lbs.: After a
third-place finish in 2021 and a runner-up finish last season, Hudson
Sharon knew exactly where the cameras were. |

D3 106 lbs.: Someone
should let Master Judice know that 0:26 does not allow for a lot of
action photographs. |
