May the Fourth Be With You
- and where things stand re the 2023 state article and the 2024
tournament |
May 4th, 2023|

As of May 4th, I have 6,313 match photos sorted
into folders of 325 matches.
A good 80% of those will be deleted before I start editing them
individually for publication.
I have 886 other photos in the "Miscellaneous," "National Anthem"
and other non-match folders and will eliminate about 50% of those as
well.
Yesterday, even with some handy 1980’s DOS
knowledge, it took me three hours to reformat my "2023 State Base"
folder of webpages. But now
it is a working "boilerplate" so I will not have to do it for the 2024
article.
The seniors will most assuredly graduate before the article
is finished. Frankly, my
goal is to complete it a week before Fargo.
Sure, that is a long time.
Nobody knows that better than I do.
I do something on it every day, though, albeit not four hours a
day as I once did on a “slow" day.
|
Honestly, I am still a tad irked about not having to go through
probably 8,000+ more photos. I have
an additional 68 semifinals photos from eight matches which were taken from the
press table with a 320mm f/2.8 lens.
That is a very heavy lens and I was not using a tripod.
Maybe 10, maybe none, of those will be worth publishing.
|
Above are photos of each
side of the mats during the semifinals. I have noted where the
barricades behind which myself and the other LWN photographers
must remain can be seen through the masses. I had a hard time just
finding the barricades in the photos. |
I had a “Master Plan” to cover the six mats of semifinals
matches with four cameras. It was
all for naught, though, as we could not see the matches from behind the
barricades, much less get angles to photograph them.
There were far too many people inside the barricades than I believe
should have been allowed. I cannot
specifically blame anyone, but I know I cannot prevent that from happening again
in 2024. Those of us behind the
barricades weald little power.
So, basically there will not be any semifinals photos, and,
as a result of my sending my photographers home until the finals, and my leaving
after watching what I could see of the semifinals, there are not photos of the
CSFs, 3rd-4th place or 5th-6th place
matches. While driving back to the
hotel my plan was to pack-up my car and go back to River Ridge to watch the
finals on TW. Thunderstorms on I-49
and I-10, plus that I had yet to pay my photographers, kept me in Bossier City.
I am glad I stayed, but I am not sure about the 2024 tournament.
The article will be done, and I once again
appreciate the patience you have shown me time and time before.
CAT is helping as best she can, but it is tiring. Oft
times I wonder about her work ethic, though. |

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ARTICLE PROGRESS
Progress? Well, just photos work for now.
A red check mark indicates the photos have been
