In the 2021-22 season Brother Martin's Kent Burandt was a scoring machine,
but he allowed more points to be scored against him than he should have.
Nevertheless he still made it to his third consecutive Division I finals match.
This season, aside from an 18-17 loss to a Georgia wrestler at the Trey Culotta,
Burandt did the scoring...a lot of it. He scored 125 points to his
opponents' 38. (Do recall that 18 of those 38 came from that one Georgia
kid.) Against everyone else from Louisiana, and most from other states, he
scored falls. Burandt won the Cinco Ranch Big 12, the Saints Invitational
II, tripped himself up a little to place third at the Trey Culotta, and then won
the Louisiana Classic. In the LACL, Zachary's Chase Rose was the only
opponent who scored on Burandt, via a first period takedown. At the state
championships his first-round opponent, Connor Butter of Sulphur, scored an
escape point in a match that lasted 30 seconds. St. Amant's Cole Didier
scored a reversal in the first period, but the match did not enter a second
period. He was unstoppable.
Catholic's Elijah Gilmore won the Brusly 8, the Greater Baton Rouge
Championships, placed fourth at the Hoover Invitational and fifth at the
Louisiana Classic. In his prior two matches with Burandt he could not
score a point in a 9-0 MD and a 15-0 TF. The same things happened in the
state finals when Burandt again teched him 15-0
