Sam Houston's Pollex Coleman successfully drops to 120 lbs.

Pollex Coleman had lost to only one Division II wrestler all season. That was a 10-1 MD by Brennan Boyer, who would certainly be at 126 lbs. at the state tournament and was fresh off of a Ken Cole championship and a win over Brother Martin's Hunter Chabert. So, 1) why risk it if he can make 120 lbs. and 2) teammate Tyson Roach, who was fresh off of a Ken Cole finals win over Southside's Landon Reaux, should easily be able to handle the Division II 126 lbs. weight class. Well, one of those was true. Coleman pinned his first three opponents in 2:00, 1:49 and 5:14. In the finals he needed only 1:11 to score a fall over defending Division II state champion Brennan Romero. Roach, well, his state experience is another story.

At 126 lbs. Coleman won the Ronnie Suarez and the Jesse James Southwest Shootout. He placed second at the Warrior and the Zachary Big Horse, and third at the Jacob McMillan and the Trey Culotta. He was fourth at the Public Schools Championships and fifth at the Ken Cole.

His opponent was third-seeded and defending Division II state champion Brennan Romero. Romero won the Riot of the Red, the Brusly Division II and the Lafayette Metro. He placed second at the Tiger Invitational and third at the Jacob McMillan. The sophomore made the finals with an 8-2 semifinals win over Rummel senior Stephen Kimball.
