I have a little problem with the seeding of this weight class.
Evangel's freshman Joseph Gilreath or Shaw's Giovani Malta could have been
seeded first, as Malta defeated Gilreath, or even South Beauregard's Ayden
Green, as he defeated Malta. Damned Escher stairwell, it is.
Gilreath did have the best record by far, and he won the Jimmy Vidrine
Division III tournament and the ARK-LA-TEX. His main problem might
have been Malta, who was seeded fourth, but Thomas Jefferson's #5 Rowan Garrity
prevented a rematch when he beat Malta in the quarterfinals. Gilreath
already had a fall over Garrity, and he did it again in the semifinals.
Green was seeded second, but he fell to #7 Landon Thibodeaux of Basile
in the quarterfinals.
Quite possibly overlooked was third-seeded St. Michael senior Antonio
Barraza. People should not overlook seniors. Barraza pinned all
three of his opponents to make the finals. In the finals against Gilreath,
Barraza first scored five points in the first 1:12, and then scored a fall 22
second later.
